Back in November 2025, I had the opportunity to spend time on the road with my good friends in Bastardane, which also introduced me to one of the tour's standout acts: No Cure. Throughout the run, I had the chance to get to know the band personally while documenting their performances, and it quickly became clear that their intensity onstage is matched only by their genuine personalities offstage.
Formed in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2021, No Cure has rapidly established itself as one of the most uncompromising names in modern hardcore and death metal. Comprised of Blaythe Steuer (vocals), Aesop Mongo (guitar), Kyle Ray (guitar), Duncan Newey (drums), and touring bassist Thad, the band has carved out a distinct identity through a fusion of hardcore and death metal. Crushing riffs, relentless percussion, and Blaythe's guttural vocal delivery are paired with an unwavering commitment to the band's straight edge principles, creating a sound that is as punishing as it is purposeful. Beyond their ferocious live performances, they are also some of the most genuine, funny, and welcoming musicians I've had the privilege of working alongside.
In just a few short years, No Cure has built an impressive catalog, releasing ...For the Stainless Steel (2022), The Commitment to Permanence (2023), and I Hope I Die Here (2024). Their fourth full-length album, It Is Going to Get Dark, is scheduled for release on July 10, 2026, with the blistering singles "Slowly Turning Blue" and "Convulsing in the Dark" already offering insight of what's to come.
On Sunday, April 19, No Cure launched their latest tour as direct support for Brujería and Cattle Decapitation, immediately setting the tone for an evening defined by unrelenting energy. They opened their set with "Don't Need Your Help," joined by Bastardane bassist and vocalist Luca Badan. Having spent several days on the road together, Luca had become a reoccurring voice during the song, with each performance feeling tighter and more explosive than the last. Because this stop took place in both Luca's and my hometown, his guest appearance carried an added sense of excitement, drawing an enthusiastic response from the crowd.
As the song erupted, Blaythe and Luca commanded the stage together, towering over the audience while whipping their long hair in every direction and trading crushing guttural vocals. Their chemistry was undeniable, immediately igniting the room and establishing the chaotic, high-impact atmosphere that would define the rest of No Cure's set.
The band's live chemistry was impossible to ignore. Blaythe Steuer stalked the front of the stage with an intimidating presence, constantly encouraging movement from the audience, while the twin-guitar assault from Aesop and Kyle produced a wall of crushing riffs that shook the room. Behind them, Duncan’s punishing drumming kept every breakdown and tempo change razor-sharp, while Thad locked everything together with a thunderous low end that could be felt as much as heard.
One of the night's biggest highlights came with the live debut of "Convulsing in the Dark," the first opportunity for fans to experience material from the upcoming It Is Going to Get Dark. The new track fit seamlessly alongside the band's established catalog, delivering the same suffocating heaviness while hinting at an even darker direction for the record.
By the time the band closed with "Hang Me From the Bible Belt," the atmosphere inside the House of Blues had reached a fever pitch. It was the kind of opening set that immediately won over newcomers while reminding longtime fans exactly why No Cure has become one of the fastest-rising names in heavy music. In just roughly thirty minutes, they transformed the venue into a whirlwind of aggression, passion, and community, setting an impossibly high bar for the rest of the evening.
